How We Approach Access Control
Access control fails in practice for one of two reasons: too many exceptions get made to the rule set until it means nothing, or the system is so rigid that staff prop doors open to get around it. We design around how people actually move through a building — visitor flow, shift patterns, delivery access — so the rules that get set are the ones that get followed. Every door, reader and credential type is documented at handover, so there's a clear record of who can go where and why.

Our Process
From Survey to Handover
Door schedules get drawn up around how the building actually operates — which doors need badge-only, which need a second factor, which are fire-exit-only and should never be locked electronically without a proper override. We test every access group against real scenarios (a delivery at 6am, a cleaner's out-of-hours shift) before go-live, not just on paper. You get a signed-off door schedule at handover showing exactly who can open what, so it's never a mystery six months later.

Questions We Get Asked
What happens if someone loses a card or key fob?
You deactivate that single credential from the management software immediately — no need to rekey doors or reissue cards to everyone else.
Can different doors have different access rules?
Yes — access is set per door, per user or user group, and can include time-of-day restrictions (e.g. cleaning staff access only outside business hours).
Does access control work during a power outage?
Systems are specified with battery backup and fail-safe/fail-secure door hardware chosen per door, based on fire code and security requirements for that specific opening.
